Kia’s Rondo Sx Concept Revealed at 2007 Chicago Auto Show
The ongoing Chicago Auto Show has seen great cars being unveiled one after the other. Most of the cars being shown at the said event are concept vehicles that will in the near future be available for the public. One such concept car that will have a long line of people waiting for its release is the Kia Rondo SX concept vehicle.
The concept car is based on the Kia Rondo unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November last year. The new concept vehicle is the realization of Kia of their “Exciting and Enabling” brand direction.
“We have positioned the all-new 2007 Rondo as a vehicle of function and versatility,” Len Hunt said. Hunt is the executive vice president and COO of Kia Motors America. “The Rondo SX Concept is proof that smart, spacious vehicles don’t need to be boring, and that consumers can still be passionate about a daily driver,” Hunt added further.
The concept car uses design elements that are employed by the current Kia SX models. The aggressive looking front and rear fascias are just some of the design characteristics that are being used by Kia models like the Rio and the Spectra. Aside from that, the concept crossover vehicle also employs sportier grill inserts. The addition of such design increases the aesthetic value of the vehicle.
To make the SX concept of the Rondo more aerodynamic, the roof rails present on other trim package of the Rondo were nowhere to be seen on the concept vehicle. The absence of the roof rails decreased dramatically the coefficient of drag of the vehicle. The door handles and side moldings are finished in contrasting colors which gives the car a soft and fashionable overall finish. The Kia Rondo SX Concept also comes with an accessory body kit which is also available on the other trim packages of the Rondo.
The interior of the concept vehicle exudes a sports car luxurious feel, thanks to the materials used and the finishes utilized. The black leather that wraps the steering wheel which is common on SX trim packages of other Kia models is also present in the Kia Rondo SX Concept. The seats, meanwhile, are upholstered in grey leather with red leather trimmings around the grey Alcantara inserts. Stainless steel sports pedals are employed by the SX concept and this departs from the black theme that the current Rondo models use on their brake pedals. The center stack, shifter surround, and the door switch trims are characterized by an accented platinum look.
The concept car is equipped with a 2.7 liter double overhead cam V6 engine. The powerplant is optimized via a cold-air intake and a cat-back exhaust system which reduces back pressure from the exiting exhaust gas. The use of the cat-back system allows a boost of 10 horsepower to the 192 horsepower output of the engine. The exhaust system allows the powerplant to perform at its optimum level, akin to what a Volvo muffler does for the exhaust system that employs it. The height of the Kia Rondo SX Concept is lower than that of the current models by three inches. The lowered ride height of the car increases the cornering capability of the car. The power from the engine is transferred to the vehicle’s five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels. And to effectively stop the vehicle, cross-drilled and slotted brake rotors are employed at the front and the rear brake system.
Aside from being a platform for the unveiling of the Kia Rondo SX Concept, the Chicago Auto Show also saw the Sedona, another Kia vehicle, receiving the distinction of being the best minivan according to MotorWeek.

CSI: NY – Back to the Big Apple
Easily the darkest, most hard-bitten member of the CSI family, CSI:NY returns this fall for a third season: a season that opens following the violent murder of a former CSI, with another recovering from a coma.
We left the second season of CSI in turmoil. In the penultimate episode of the season, “Heroes”, the charred remains of former CSI Aiden Burn were discovered in a stolen car. While the identity of the murderer seemed obvious to Detective Mac Taylor and his team, they had to find to establish enough evidence to bring in JD Pratt, the unconvicted rapist whose case cost Aiden her job six months earlier.
Since leaving the department, Aiden had devoted herself to gathering evidence to finally put Pratt behind bars, and her final act did just that. Realising she would be killed, Aiden left enough evidence to pin the murder on Pratt, knowing that the CSIs would be able to use it to finish the job she promised to do.
The final episode finished the season with a bang. While surveying a murder scene in a multi-storey office building with Mac Taylor, Detective Flack finds a duffel bag containing a bomb. During the evacuation of the building the bomb is triggered and Mac, Flack and another man are caught in the blast. While the three survive, Flack is badly injured. After performing life-saving first aid, Mac safely gets Detective Flack out of the collapsed building – but he slips into a coma.
It emerges that the bomber is an unmedicated schizophrenic who believes that he is performing a public service to his country, warning them that they are not prepared for possible terrorist attacks. The bomber’s cellphone is tracked to the library of Chelsea University, where a second device is discovered and disarmed.
With a warning that a third bomb will be detonated within the hour, Mac is struggling against the clock to track down the bomber when he realises that the culprit is OHS Tech Specialist Dean Lessing, a man who appeared on the scene of the first explosion. Mac tracks him to the Goodmanson Theatre, the location of the third bomb, where Lessing takes Bomb Tech Crew leader Agent Fielding hostage. It’s only when Mac, knowing that the mentally ill Lessing wants nothing more than to serve as a US Marine, barks an order for him to secure his weapon that Lessing complies, giving himself up.
The season closes on the image of Flack lying unconscious in his hospital bed, surrounded by his friends and colleagues.
CSI: NY – Third Season
Details of the third season are being kept tightly under wraps by CBS. However, we do know that the CSIs will be joined by one or two famous faces throughout the season. Clare Forlani (Meet Joe Black, Mystery Men) will be joining the team as the new medical examiner, Dr Peyton Driscoll. Driscoll is believed to be playing the part of Mac Taylor’s new love interest in the show. Also appearing will be Emmanuelle Vaugier (Two and a Half Men) as CSI detective Jennifer Angell, and Edward Furlong (Terminator 2, American History X) in his first TV role.
CSI:NY has consistently come third in viewer figures behind CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and its spectacularly popular spin-off, CSI: Miami. So what does the future hold for the New York story? Will this third season see the black sheep of the family triumph? Well, we’ll have to wait and see.

Questions To Ask When Buying A Used Car – Part 3
We are back with part three of the series, Questions to Ask When Buying a Used Car. In part two, we covered the questions about the drive train, service history, and accident history. In this part we are getting right down into the finer details of what questions to ask when you are interviewing used car sellers over the phone before you travel out to see their car for sale.
It’s worthwhile to ask the seller how much rust their car has. Let’s talk about rust. Even a car that is only a few years old can have a little rusty spot or two. An older automobile that is for example 10 or 15 years old can potentially have anywhere between no rust at all and a serious cancer condition. No one likes a rusty car, but it’s obvious that the less there is the better.
It is always interesting to ask about rust over the phone with a used car because everyone has a different perception about how much rust their car has. It is difficult to quantify, and it’s all relative. Some people have told me that their car is very rusty, and when I went to see it I found that it had almost no rust at all by my standards! The opposite scenario is more typical.
The answers to the rust question are often misleading, but ask anyway and write down their responses. If you do go out to look at the car later, you can learn more about the seller by referring to your notes. Speaking of notes, it’s a really good idea to take careful notes when car shopping over the phone. It is possible to gather so much information in a relatively short period of time, that if you don’t record what you’ve learned in a systematic way, you will end up with confusing, incomplete, or just downright incorrect data.
I like to take a blank sheet of paper and begin each entry with the year, make, model, price, and phone number from the ad while I am dialing. That means I am writing about that vehicle before I even have the person on the line. From there I just add the details and then make a line across and call another one. After several calls have been made, it’s easy to look back and see which ones look the best. Take your notes with you on your actual visit and compare what the seller has told you with your sheet to see if they were being straight with you over the phone.
Ask the sellers if there are any problems that they are aware of with their car? Again make notes on their answers. It’s okay to spend a little time on this one. You can subtly remind them that it’s important to be truthful here by telling them what you want the car for and why you are concerned about its future reliability. Ask them if this car needs anything in order to be safe to drive right now, in the near future, and in the distant future.
You should always ask them what they have done in terms of maintenance or repairs to the car lately, and if they have the receipts to prove the work. If they have no receipts, then be very skeptical of the maintenance history. No service records usually mean incomplete maintenance which spells trouble for any used vehicle later in life.
That wraps up part three. In part four, I’ll cover some more specifics including expensive-to-replace critical-car-components! Thanks for reading.

RC Car Competitions – 3 Great Tips For Participants
A remote control car enthusiast will spend many hours and hundreds of dollars to build a creation that he can be proud of. After all the hard work and effort, it is no fun to just keep the creation under wraps and not show it off. It would be a complete waste of time and money, according to some. Understandably, though, many radio control car enthusiasts plan to enter the RC cars they build, in various competitions. The popularity of the RC race car is increasing as there are many fans who are interested in it. There are clubs and associations dedicated to radio controlled car racing. A large number of competitions are being organized and there are various kinds of competitions. Here we look at some of the main types of competitions that are organized and the type of RC cars required for it. It may at times be possible to exchange some of the parts of the RC car to get a RC car suited for a particular type of competition.
1. The first kind of competition is common enough; it is a race set up on a simple race track, like a NASCAR event. A paved road functions as a track and all cars are lined up in a row at the starting point. There may be sprint races or marathons needing a few dozen laps. In these types of races, the speed matters. No one is interested in the appearance of the RC car, so long as it beats the competition. There is a lot of technical detail involved in the creation of these RC cars. Gas powered cars that are lightweight, having high tech engines with firm wheels are best suited to these contests.
2. The second kind of competition is also a race but is more fun. The race takes place on an off-road track. The off-road track will have rough terrain with hills and valleys and also many obstacles or ramps. Most of the entrants have remote controlled vehicles that look like trucks, because the cars take a real beating on the off-road tracks. The cars will have huge shock absorbers and some may even have wheels placed on both the sides just in case the RC car flips over when it hits any bump. Many innovative methods and advanced driving techniques are used to keep such RC cars in the game. This makes it an exciting sport for RC car enthusiasts.
3. Lastly, there are the exhibition competitions consisting of short segments. Each segment shows a particular skill or feature of the radio controlled car like its agility, the speed or the handling. You may be asked to accelerate down a straight road to find out the maximum speed the car can attain. You might be asked to do slalom events by winding in and out of the cones. Each competition may have different types of segments but along similar lines as explained earlier.
Any activity involving radio controlled cars is likely to be great fun for the participants. It may not be winning or losing the game but a time to bond with and get to know other remote control car enthusiasts.

Car Wrap Advertising
Nowadays, when you walk on the street or drive on the road, you can see many car wrapped with various ads. It’s called a “car wrap” and it has been a pretty well-known, cheap way of advertising for many years now. In these days, it is gaining popularity with advertisers as they try to reach their target market and many people now get paid to drive their own car.
With a car wrap, the company can maximize the area their advertising reaches by making it move. This new advertising means is cost effective and can provide the business with a new look. Traditional advertising methods would suggest the more money the company spend, the more advertising they will receive; but with a moving vehicle wrap, they only have to pay a one-time fee to advertise and be seen by a whole city! Moreover, they can control who and where their wrap will be seen.
Someone offers to pay you cash money to get into your car every day and drive to and from the office, the same as you usually do, Your best bet would be to try on your own. Search around for “car wraps” on the internet and see what the lowest price is for getting one printed and installed in your area. Then approach small businesses with the idea, already having done all the research for them (meaning you can give them a price that includes your “fee” and the wrap itself). You can find talking points and tips/pointers on marketing yourself online pretty easily.
The payment depends on the size of wrap – whether or not your whole car is covered, 1/2, 1/4th, etc. Also how long the deal is for, how much time each week you have to dedicate to driving around (typically there’s a minimum number of miles or hours you need to promise you’ll be driving per week or month). All these factors come into play.
A good idea might be to call around local shops that print/install the wraps and ask them if they know of any companies looking for vehicles.
